Arkansas State Police and the Arkansas Department of Correction are investigating the death of an inmate at the Cummins Unit at Grady.
According to an ADC news release, just before 11 p.m. Friday, staff at Cummins were alerted by another inmate that inmate Henry Bunch, 53, was lying unresponsive on the floor of the two-man cell shared by both inmates.
“Responding correctional officers and medical staff performed emergency medical treatment,” the news release said. “Bunch was later transported to the unit infirmary for further emergency medical treatment; however, he was pronounced dead in 11:35 p.m. at the unit infirmary.”
The State Crime Lab will be asked to perform a post-mortem examination of the body. The Department of Correction will be conducting an internal investigation, according to the news release.
Bunch was serving a 65-year sentence for capital murder and other charges out of Washington County, ADC records show.
