Two people were killed when a fire of unknown origin broke out in a mobile home in Pine Bluff Monday morning.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victims as Angel Mario De La Garza Sr., age unknown, and Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, age also unknown. Both were pronounced dead at 6:51 a.m. Kelley said the bodies will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office at Little Rock Tuesday for autopsies.
The fire was reported at 5:51 a.m. at 2001 S. Ohio, Lot 62 at Greenfield Trailer Park, and when firefighters arrived, the single-wide mobile home was fully engulfed in flames. The bodies were found in a back bedroom.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
Firefighters were on the scene until 8:45 a.m.
On Monday afternoon, the park was quiet, with the burned-out trailer wrapped with yellow caution tape. Several trailers surrounding it had cars parked in their yards, but there were no signs of anyone home. A knock on the door at two adjacent trailers went unanswered.
A man walking down the road about 100 yards from the fire site asked not to be identified but said he knew the two who were killed. He said they were always nice to him. The man didn’t say whether he lived in the trailer park or not.
“It’s a shame,” he said.
