Southeast Arkansas College will host the “Be Pro, Be Proud” mobile Workforce Workshop unit from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. Also, SEARK’s Technical Studies division will host an open house. The events are open to the public and refreshments will be provided.

At the Technical Studies division’s open house, officials will showcase SEARK programs such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical maintenance and welding. Faculty will be on hand to provide tours and information about their programs.

During the workforce workshop, participants will see the “Be Pro, Be Proud” mobile unit which features a customized, interactive trailer loaded with information and skills challenges.

“The workforce workshop provides hands-on experiences for individuals interested in skilled professions while showing the jobs in depth to a live audience,” according to a news release.

“The lack of a skilled workforce in several fields is a critical issue to Arkansas’s economy as the state tries to succeed in a globally competitive environment. The Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce estimates over 23 percent of the current skilled professionals in the state are at or near retirement age. But our state’s workforce isn’t prepared to fill the positions our retiring workers are creating,” according to the release.
