Sweet potato pies must be dropped off at Saracen Landing between 8 and 10 a.m.

The parks department will also host other events Sept. 22. The farmers market at Saracen Landing will open at 6 a.m. and the Jefferson County 5K Run/Walk/Dance to End Childhood Obesity starts at 8 a.m. at the Amphitheater in Regional Park. Events will also be held for children.

Meanwhile, the Sweet Potato Pie Bake-off will include first, second and third place winners. There will also be a Peoples' Choice Award. Winners receive trophies, listing on the Saracen Landing digital board, social media posting and other acknowledgements.

“Proceeds from the Sweet Potato Pie Bake-off makes a scholarship donation in memory of Mrs. Jimmie Lee Edwards. Mrs. Edwards played a huge role starting the bake-off with educational seminars on sweet potatoes,” according to a news release.
