The annual Tour de Bluff Bike Fun Day and the second annual Tony “Chilidog” Carruth Memorial Jam Street Contest will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at The Pines mall parking lot. Fun day registration begins at 7 a.m.

Novel T’s Custom Screen Printing and Ad Specialty Gallery and ARORA are hosting the fun day which will feature bicycle safety information, sporty bicycle maneuvers, a 21 1⁄2 mile Pine Bluff to Altheimer race. There will also be bicycle courses designed for riders to travel any comfortable distance from 1 mile to 62 miles, according to the release.

“Tour de Bluff is a family activity for people of all ages to learn the safe way to enjoy bicycling,” according to the release. “Anyone can participate — those who are just learning to ride a bicycle, those who ride regularly and those who haven’t been on a bicycle since they were kids.”

Road racers who would like to compete for the Tour de Bluff title will travel from Pine Bluff to Altheimer and back. Leisure riders wanting to ride the course any distance “just for fun” and distance riders will begin after all racers have started.

While bikers are riding, others may watch and/or participate in the games and activities, which include a bicycle safety demonstration, a fire engine display by the Pine Bluff Fire & Emergency Services Department, a “Best Looking Bike” contest, and sporty bike maneuvers.

4H and Jefferson County Growing Healthy Communities have partnered for Bicycle Safety stations to teach safe riding skills. The course is designed to help 4H members prepare for the 4H bicycle competition, however, anyone can participate.

Tour De Bluff is also setup as a Boy Scout Challenge. Boy Scouts can work on their Cycling Merit Badge and earn a patch.

Carruth Memorial Jam Street Contest

Meanwhile, the second annual Tony “Chilidog” Carruth Memorial Jam Street Contest will also be held. The contest will start at 11 a.m. with registration and practice at 9 am. Helmets are required. Minors must have parent or guardian consent to enter. The special guest will be Hoffman Bikes Pro, Art Thompson.

The contest includes the “Great” class, where participants will compete for a $500 purse; and the “Good” and “Wanna Be Good” classes that will compete for prizes. The course will consist of 2 Quarterpipes, Box Jump, Spine Ramp, and Street Rails. Participants may pre-register via PayPal – .

The goal for Tour de Bluff is to show people how to stay in shape while having fun, according to the release.
