The Delta Network Food Bank sponsored its 15th annual Hunger Relief Operation Dec. 2 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Hundreds of area families were served, according to a news release.
The agency distributed food boxes (including 10-pound bags of chicken provided by Tyson Foods), clothing, shoes, coats, household items and winter blankets.
Hundreds of toys were donated by Delta Regional Community Services Outreach Network Inc., the Natural Born Riders Motorcycle Club, Relyance and Stone banks and others, according to the release.
Bonnie Savage was the director of the registration team which assisted participants. Volunteers staffed stations to receive the crowd and to accept the Tyson Foods donation from a freezer truck.
State Rep. Vivian Flowers and Elizabeth Taylor prepared a table with coats and other winter apparel donated by the Flowers family for the children in need. Representatives from Houseaboutit, an economic development agency, were set up in the lobby to offer services to people after they completed their registration.
The participants were all welcomed to the event where the Rev. Tim Law discussed the true reason for the Christmas season.
“The children and adults alike were filled with excitement as the Natural Born Riders Motorcycle Club coordinated the drawing for eight bicycles and an electric car they donated,” according to the release. “A variety of other toys for children 12 and under were available for the children attending the event. The children took quick possession of their bikes and the electric car. This concluded the program and the participants were released to visit the stations set up in the concourse.”
