A 28-year-old Pine Bluff man was found shot to death Thursday morning in the city’s first homicide of the year. Police say the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Marquise Donte Williams, who was pronounced dead at 9:37 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds to the upper portion of the body.
Kelley said the body will be sent to the State Crime Laboratory Friday for an autopsy.
According to a news release from the Pine Bluff Police Department, the body was found after officers were sent to the area of 10th Avenue and Juniper Street at about 9 a.m. When they arrived, they found Williams lying in the street with apparent gunshot wounds.
This was the first homicide of 2019 in the Pine Bluff city limits. In 2018, a total of 19 were reported.
