A reported domestic disturbance between family members Saturday resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly spat in the face of a police officer.

When police arrived at the disturbance at a house in the 3700 block of South Ohio Street, they found Michael Epperson, 19, fighting with his younger brother. Epperson was holding a 2-by-4 at the time.

Detective Keith Banks reported as additional officers arrived at the scene, Epperson was ordered to drop the board, which he finally did.

Sgt. David Vilches approached Epperson and began talking to him, and when officers attempted to arrest Epperson, he spat in the face of Vilches. When questioned, Epperson admitted spitting in Vilches’ face and said since his arms were pinned, spitting was his only course of action.

On Tuesday, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for Epperson after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
