On Jan, 17, the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County celebrated the legacy of Mr. James “Papa” Britt during a retirement celebration.

After 28 years of service at the Boys & Girls Club, Britt retired as the unit director of the Townsend Park site, according to a news release.

“There were over 60 individuals in attendance to celebrate with Britt and send their best wishes: city officials, family, friends, board members, staff, and club kids and parents,” according to the release. “This was a night of smiles and laughter as many individuals shared stories and memories of all the great things Mr. Britt has done in the Jefferson County community, specifically with the youth.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County offered a special “Thank you” to those who donated toward his farewell gift: Charles Girley, Flavelia Strigger, Mayor Shirley Washington, Marilyn Blackwell, Leslie Peters, Wanda Steward, Wilma Kinda, Brenda Dixon, Kathryn Brown, Janet Bell, Octavia Denton, Mary Savage, Markisha Johnson, Joyce Johnson, Erica Fulton, JoAnn Johnson, Delores B. King, Tyjan Jones, Essica Clifton, New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Mattie P. Collins, Gina Alley, Sen. Stephanie Flowers, Scott Robinson, Albert King, Virginia Hymes and Mary Liddell.
