The Arkansas Bar Association’s Mock Trial Regional Competition for high school students will be held Saturday, March 2, at the STEM Conference Center at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

The first round begins at 9 a.m. and the second round begins at 1 p.m. Each round should last around two hours. The public is invited to attend the mock trials, according to a news release.

Teams in the Pine Bluff competition include Bryant High School, Camden Fairview High School, El Dorado High School, Malvern High School (two teams) and Mount St. Mary/Catholic High School.

Regional competitions are also being held at Fayetteville and Jonesboro on Saturday. More than 300 students from 25 high schools around the state will compete for the title of Mock Trial State Champions and the chance to compete at the national Mock Trial competition at Athens, Ga., in May.

Approximately 100 local lawyers and judges volunteer to help with the coordination and judging of the competition.

Parents and teachers interested in bringing the Mock Trial program to their school are encouraged to contact the Arkansas Bar Association. The association can provide curriculum plans for in-school classes as well as material for establishing a Mock Trial team as an extra-curricular activity. Only six students and a teacher-sponsor are needed for a team, according to the release.
