The Pine Bluff Fire & Emergency Services Department will sponsor the 2019 Citizen’s Fire Academy for eight weeks beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4.

All classes will be held on Thursdays at the Pine Bluff Fire Department Training Facility, 3216 W. Seventh Ave., except for the night of a tour of Fire Station #1 and the 911 dispatch center, according to a news release.

This program is for Pine Bluff residents, 20 years old and older, who are interested in learning more about how the fire department conducts its multifaceted operations.

Participants will learn about the department’s organizational structure, hiring and training process, apparatus familiarization, hazardous materials team, fire tactics and strategies and other topics, according to the release.

Residents will also receive life safety CPR training and an overview of Fire Prevention and Community Outreach operations.

The last week of the program will feature a graduation ceremony and presentation of certificates and awards.

“Our goal is to increase fire and life safety awareness and honor the department’s commitment of ‘focusing on the community,’” according to the release. “Participants will garner knowledge of a firefighter’s core job functions with classroom instruction, hands-on participation and live demonstrations.”

Applications are available at Pine Bluff Fire Department Administrative Offices, 200 E. Eighth Ave., at the civic center. Criminal background checks may be conducted on all applicants for the Citizen’s Fire Academy.

Classroom size is limited to 25 participants. Residents of Pine Bluff will have first preference.
