Students from Robert Morehead Middle School attended the Jefferson County Arkansas River Education Services Cooperative’s Math Competition.

Students in sixth through eighth grade in the Dollarway School District participated in the event March 9, according to a news release.

“Math instructional facilitators, teachers, administrators and students from around Jefferson County participated. The purpose of this event was to show unity among school districts as well as a great way to improve student growth in mathematics, through healthy competition,” according to the release.

“All students can learn math and opportunities such as these challenge students to show their understanding of basic principles through problem solving. By encouraging student interest and confidence in mathematics it will stimulate enthusiasm and a love for mathematics and they will become even more effective math learners,” a spokesman said in the release.

The district congratulated math teacher Jerren Jefferson, who teaches 7th and 8th grade math, and his future “Math Whizzes,” the spokesman said. “Hats off to Principal Paulette Bell’s leadership and tenacity.”
