The Ivy Center for Education will present Dedric Jones, a gospel recording artist, motivational speaker and educator, from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26.

The event will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 913 University Drive.

Jones will speak to Ivy Center students about selecting careers, staying positive and working hard in school. He will discuss how music and singing is fun, relaxing and increases positive thinking, according to a news release.

Born and raised at Pine Bluff, Jones is also known as a vocal and career coach and minister.

“Being cultivated in the church helped me to develop my faith and gain a love for music and the fine arts, as well,” Jones said.

While in graduate school in 2001, Jones began working as a college recruiter. That same year, he began the Dedric Jones and Chosen Praise gospel singing group.

He is known for producing CDs/DVDs such as Heart of David; For My Healing…I Worship; Living Live; Dedric Jones presents When Friends Meet at Christmas and his latest, It’s Called Life Movie Soundtrack.

In 2015, Jones began to study film and has gone on to establish himself as a writer, director and producer for stage, television and film, according to the release.

A 1996 graduate of Pine Bluff High School, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in history in 2000 from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He later received his Master of Science degree in public administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

“Our scholars are in for a great evening with Dedric Jones,” Mattie Collins, president of the Ivy Center, said. “He is a talented young man who knows how to motivate today’s youth.”
