Pine Bluff School District is participating in Arkansas Reads One Book: One District One Book, a family literacy project, through Saturday, May 4. The program began April 12.
“The district is elated to participate in this state-wide literacy initiative,” according to a district spokesman.
All staff and students at kindergarten through fifth grade schools will receive a copy of “The Toothpaste Millionaire” with a family literacy activity guide.
The initiative is designed to create a shared family reading experience at the elementary level throughout the school district.
“The goal in Arkansas and Pine Buff School District is to create a culture of family literacy that will yield many positive results for decades to come,” according to the release.
“Reading is brain food. The experience of reading, whether being the reader or being read to, activates many areas of the brain. Reading builds vocabulary and makes a child a better reader,” according to the release.
