Easter/Resurrection Services


Saracen Landing, 200 Lake Saracen Drive, will be the site for an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The guest speaker will be the Rev. George Parks of New Hope Baptist Church at North Little Rock. Participating churches will include New St. Hurricane, New Direction, Bethel New Bethel, St. Mark, Rose Hill, St. Peter’s Rock, Old St. James, Liberty Hill and First Missionary Baptist churches and Tabernacle of Faith Church of God in Christ. Proceeds from the offering will benefit Ambassadors for Christ, according to a news release.


New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will present its annual Easter celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 21. This program will include a presentation by New Community youth as well as a “RIP the Runway” Easter Fashion Show. The church will also host an Easter egg hunt and activities from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20. There will be indoor and outdoor games and refreshments will be served.


Ezekiel Missionary Baptist Church, 121 W. Martin Place, will have its Resurrection service at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The youth department will present “He Rose With All Power” activities following service.


Unity Christian Fellowship Church, 2712 S. Bay St., will celebrate Easter worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The Rev. Alexander T. Price, a member of Unity, will be preaching.


Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will conduct its Sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The speaker will be the Rev. Samuel Mixon. An Easter program will be held during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday School.


Greater Ward Chapel AME Church, 3700 W. Sixth Ave., will host the joint Resurrection Sunrise service for the Pine Bluff Area AME Churches in the Pine Bluff-Helena District of the East Arkansas Conference. Services will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The Rev. Daniel W. Johnson, pastor of Allen Temple AME Church, will be the preacher.


Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave., will present its Easter program at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 21. Worship service will be held at 11 a.m., including the Holy Communion. The church’s inspirational choir will sing and the pastor, the Rev. Larry C. Battles, will deliver the Easter sermon.


Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave., will host the 35th annual joint Resurrection Sunday morning services with New Town Missionary Baptist Church at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 21, at Mount Nebo. The preacher will be the Rev. Xavier Diamond, pastor of New Town. A combined choir from both churches will sing.


Grace Community Church of the Nazarene, 2400 W. 31st Ave., will hold two services on Easter, Sunday, April 21: one at 10 a.m. and their launch service at 4 p.m. with a pastor, Robert Anderson, leading the service. Services will include worship, music and fellowship.


Solid Foundation Nondenominational Church, 3811 W. Fourth Ave., will hold Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 21.


New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, 3319 S. Ohio St., will host Easter Sunday worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 21. Also, an Easter party will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, with food, music, games, giveaways, an egg hunt and bounce houses.


Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 S. Indiana St., will conduct its Easter service at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The pastor, the Rev. Dennis W. Wilson, will deliver the message. This will be followed by the annual Easter program.


New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will present its Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 21. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Donta Nicholson of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.


Old Morning Star Baptist Church, 3116 Port Road, will hold its annual Easter program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 21.


Good Friday


Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Grady will host “The 7 Last Words of Jesus Christ” at 7 p.m. Good Friday, April 19. Guests pastors will be the Revs. Tyrone Ford, Robert Scott, Jarrett Miles, Sylvester Kearney, Fred Wisemon, Travis Harden and Robert Iverson.


Old St. James Baptist Church, 1307 W. 16th Ave., will celebrate Good Friday at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19. The guest speaker will be the Rev. James Murry, pastor of Gospel Temple Baptist Church.


First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St., will host a Good Friday presentation entitled “Behold the Darkness” by Benjamin Harlan at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19. The sanctuary choir will present the unique, narrated musical service.


Greater Deliverance Global Ministry, 2215 E. Harding Ave., will present a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19. The featured speaker will be Robbie Henry, an apostle of Rhema Redemption International Ministries (RIM) of Pine Bluff.


Concerts


Dumas Singing Center will be the site for the Resurrection Celebration Musical at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21. Featured singers will include the Heavenly Hearts, Johnson Family, New Beginning, Spiritual Wonders of El Dorado, Angels of Praise and Sonz of Glory, both Pine Bluff.


Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 S. Cypress St., will host the anniversary of the Southside Singing Union at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 21. Guests will include the Sensational Soul Revivals, Mighty Gospelettes, Spiritualettes, Sons of Glory, KCAT Caravan, Men of Christ, Humble Hearts Gloriettes, Shining Stars and Christland/Faith of Harmony.


Judah Restoration Worship Center, 2401 S. Main St., will host the Arkansas Connection Easter Blockbuster, a program of the Bishop Kenneth L. Robinson (BKLR) Quartet Convention. The event will be held Sunday, April 21, beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the pre-show. The show begins at 5:30 p.m. with guests including the Racy Brothers, Bishop Kenneth Robinson and Chosen, Sensational Wells Brothers, Terrell Rogers and Men of Destiny, Revived, Hunter Brothers, Pastor Austin Hill & Renewed, Travis Jackson Jr. & the Spiritual Sonz, Eternal Light Singers and Barnes Brothers. Admission is $10 at the door. VIP admission is $25.


The Dallas County Courthouse Square at Fordyce will be the site for the Gospel Explosion 2019 of the Fordyce on the Cotton Belt Festival. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. The program features area choirs, vocalists, dancers, food vendors, and Clegg Snap Jewelry Box. If it rains, the event will be moved to the Fordyce Civic Center. Details: 870-220-2066.
