The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System announces its program activities for May.
Altheimer Branch Library –
For Adults — Mother’s Day Cards, Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to noon. Gwendolyn Shelton will help children make Mother’s Day Cards.
Main Branch Library –
For Adults — Life Book Club Presents: Shadowlands, Wednesday, May 8, at 4 p.m. at the Main Library’s Theater. “Shadowlands is a 1993 British biographical drama film about the relationship between Irish academic C. S. Lewis and American poet Joy Davidman, her death from cancer, and how this challenged Lewis’ faith,” according to a news release. “It is directed by Richard Attenborough with a screenplay by William Nicholson based on his 1985 television film and 1989 stage play of the same name.”
Life Book Club — will be held May 15, 22, 29 and June 5 from noon to 1 p.m. The book to be discussed will be “A Grief Observed” by C. S. Lewis. This book is available at the Main Branch Library’s Circulation Desk.
Movie Night — The Possession of Hannah Grace will be presented Thursday, May 16, at 4 p.m. at the Main Library’s Theater. “In this feature, a young woman who died during a failed exorcism comes back to life in a city hospital morgue,” according to the release.
Crochet 101 — will be held Monday, May 20, from 4–5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Main Branch Library. “Ever wanted to learn how to crochet but just didn’t know where to start? Come to the library and we will teach you some basic crochet techniques and tips. Patrons will learn how to crochet a small yarn bookmark,” according to the release.
Essential Oils Workshop — will be held Thursday, May 30, from 4–5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Main Branch Library. “Krystal Murphy Young will introduce participants to different uses of essential oils,” according to the release. “Patrons will also be able to sample the oils.”
Library booth at Business Expo — Thursday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. “The library staff will have a booth representing the library system at the Business Expo,” according to the release.
Main Branch Library – Children
Everyday Activities — sessions include after-school tutoring for homework, school project assistance, LEGO Table, Virtual Reality PS4 for children ages 12 and up.
Story-Time – Ages: Kindergarten through 6th grade will be held Wednesdays, May 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, from 10–11 a.m.
Redfield Branch Library —
Tiny Tot Time — will be held Mondays, May 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 10 a.m. There will be 20 minutes of activities for even the smallest patrons.
After-School Program — will be held Mondays, May 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 4 p.m. for school-age children.
Everyday — “Redfield has fun coloring pages for children and parents to enjoy at all times,” according to the release.
Watson Chapel Branch Library —
Storytime will be held Thursdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 10 a.m.
May 9 — Make popsicle stick sunflowers.
May 16 — Learn about the disastrous effects of oil spills in the ocean and do an oil spill experiment.
May 23 — Learn make a racquet and play balloon tennis.
May 30 — Learn how to make rainbow slime.
White Hall Branch Library —
Available every day for use in the library: Ozobot Evo, little robots that follow lines, LEGO WeDo and tablet, build and program, LEGO projects, Snap Circuits, learn electricity basics with projects, Building set: Marbleworks/K-Nect, Craft table, Computers, Toddlers play and learn area.
For Preschoolers — Toddler Time (for toddlers to age four), Thursdays, May 2, 9, and 16 at 10 a.m.
“An interactive program for children and their favorite adults. Join Ms. Melissa for 20 minutes of books, songs, fingerplays, and scarves with time after for play and socializing,” according to the release.
For Elementary Students — After School Explorers — All About Plants will be held Tuesdays: May 7, 14 and 21 at 4 p.m.
May 7 — Cherry blossom paintings, part 1;
May 14 — Cherry blossom painting, part 2 (first timers welcome);
May 21 — Ice cream in a bag, last Tuesday before summer!
