TOPPS after-school project will close its 2018-2019 school year with a program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at TOPPS, 1000 Townsend Drive.
The theme will be “TOPPS Got Talent” and “Reading, Bridging The Literacy Gap through Summer Reading,” according to a news release.
Students from Little TOPPS K-4 and TOPPS Teens, 5-12th graders, will present songs, poetry, dance and creative crafts.
Autumn Staples, literacy instructor for Little TOPPS, will present techniques for parents to use to Bridge the Literacy Gap through Summer Reading. Topics will include comprehension strategies, expanding vocabulary and “Rhyming will be your best friend.”
Each student will receive a literacy packet, which will include reading activities, and will be able to select five books to help improve their reading skills during the summer months. Books will be available to any student in the city for summer reading.
TOPPS Reading Program is sponsored by a grant through the Arkansas Community Foundation, Pine Bluff Community Foundation, Reading Is Fundamental and 21stCCLC.
