Tanya Stephens Walker, a student success coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, is a contestant for the 2019 UAPB/AM&N Ms. Alumni Queen.
Walker is representing the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County UAPB/AM&N Alumni Chapter as a Ms. Alumni Queen Contestant, according to a news release.
In 2003, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from UAPB. She earned her Master of Arts degree in counseling as well as a Master of Education Administration degree at Prairie View A&M University.
“I am currently a proud employee of my alma mater as a Student Success Coach in the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success. Every day, I am privileged with the awesome responsibility to encourage and motivate students toward reaching their academic goals, to assist them with financial needs, and to make sure they stay on track to graduate,” Walker said.
“What under girds this and the many hats I wear in my community are my life’s most important roles as wife to Erick Walker Sr., as mother to my three beautiful children – Alantis, Angeliah, and Erick Jr., as daughter to Mr. Willie James and Mrs. Annie Myrtle Stephens, and as an active member at Pine Bluff First Assembly of God under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Gary Bell,” she said.
As an Alumni Queen contestant, her campaign focus will mirror her personal commitment to give back to UAPB, which has poured so much into its alumni, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the nation and the world, she said.
Along withe the campaign committee and supporters, she will encourage alumni stakeholders to join the national and local chapters in support of current UAPB students as well as future students. She will also encourage the support of local and statewide stakeholders impacted by the graduates, research and service generated by UAPB.
“During my campaign, we will host and participate in fund-raising activities in support of student scholarships and other initiatives to help grow and sustain the university,” she said.
The campaign theme is “Your change can make a change” and her campaign goal is $100,000.
“With ‘your change,’ we will exceed that goal and set a new record,” Walker said.
