St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will commemorate its 148th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16. The sermon will be by the Rev. Leon Williams Sr., pastor of True Vine “E” Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. (The date was changed from June 2 due to flooding, a spokesman said.)


Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 Cypress St., will host the Southside Singing Union’s Quartet Musical at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 16. Quartet groups will include the Sensational Soul Revivals, Mighty Gospelettes, Gloriettes, Shining Stars and Christland/Faith of Harmony.

Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will host the workshops for the Greater St. Marion District Association Annual District Choir at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22 and June 29. Workshops will also be held at 1 p.m. July 20 and July 27 at Old Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.

New Era Ministry will host Gospel Praise Fest 2019 from noon to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, at the Star City Town Square. Singers will include Heavenly Hearts, Humble Hearts, Stewart Pearson, Men in Christ, Soldiers for Christ and Nu Image. The event will include food vendors, bounce houses, arts and crafts and games. Free hot dogs will be given to he first 100 children.

Father’s Day

Auburn Missionary Baptist Church at Gould will observe its annual Father’s Day services at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Felton Thornton, associate minister of St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church at Star City.

Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will observe a Father’s Day celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 16. Speakers will be Kylan Bishop, Elijah Stevens and K’Nesha “Tuddy” Brown.

Men’s/women’s services

Open Door Christian Church, 1002 E. Eighth Ave., will sponsor a men’s prayer breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 16. The guest lecturer will be the Rev. Chris Briggs, pastor of New Birth Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.

Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will observe its women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16, The featured speaker will be Betty Thomas of New United Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. The guest choir director will be Laurell Hall of St. Peter’s Rock Baptist Church and the guest musician will be Anne Anderson of Grace Temple Baptist Church.

Special events

Mt. Caramel Missionary Church,, 900 S. Grant St., will host the benefit program for Rose Ann Gardner of Pine Bluff, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Guests will include Women United for Christ, Mt. Nebo Mass Choir, Donna Huskey and WOW, Spiritual Wingz of Joy, Trace Franklin and Dedric Jones. Words of encouragement will come from Jenise “Sandy” Blake, a local pastor. Gardner, who is unable to work, has been known to sing at various church programs and other events.

Bethlehem Worship Center Church of God in Christ at Dumas will present its South Arkansas District Meeting. At 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, the speaker will be Linda Jones, a missionary. At 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, the speaker will be James Sanders, pastor of West End Church of God in Christ at Malvern.

Unity Christian Fellowship Church, 2712 S. Bay St., has resumed services at 6 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays. The speaker will be Clarence Peacock, an evangelist with Moments of Truth Evangelistic Ministries.

Barraque Street Missionary Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will host the City Wide Mission meeting at 1 p.m. Monday, June 17.

Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave., concluded its Adult Bible Study and Baptist Training Union (BTU) class Wednesday, June 12. The topic was “What’s On Your Mind?” Classes will resume Sept. 11 with new topics.

Greater Deliverance Global Ministry, 2215 E. Harding Ave., will conduct an Apostolic Gathering Empowerment Training Workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15. Victor Johnson, the apostle of Victor’s Empowerment Temple at Stuttgart, will be the facilitator.

Hope of Restoration Outreach Ministry, 807 W. Sixth Ave., will conduct a prayer session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22. The guest speaker will be Beverly Jones of Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church. Susan Gray, apostle/pastor of Remnant Outreach Ministry, is the event sponsor.

One Pine Bluff Praying Together services will continue. Residents and leaders of Pine Bluff will participate in the one hour sessions of prayer for the growth and prosperity of the city, according to a news release. Upcoming dates and locations include: June 16 — 6 p.m. Canaan Christian Center, 7890 Middle Warren Road; June 23 — 6 p.m. Allen Temple AME Church, 1125 S. Virginia St.; and June 30 — 6 p.m. Evangelistic Outreach Church, 620 L.A. Prexy Drive.

Vacation Bible School

Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave., will conduct Vacation Bible School from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 17-19.

Pleasant View Ministries Church, 1117 N. Palm St., will present its Vacation Bible School on Tuesday through Friday, June 18-21. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and classes start at 6 p.m.


Prairie Lake Baptist Church, 2611 Indiana St., will host a Youth and Youth at Heart celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15. The guest speaker will be Ervin Bateman Jr., a 13-year-old minister from Greater Mount Olive Church at Tucker. Participants will also include Mt. Zion Youth Department New Beginners and Old St. James Youth and Praise Dancers. Refreshments will be served.

Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, 9405 Middle Warren Road, will present its annual youth day program at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16. The guest speaker will be Kevin Cunningham of Sandhill Bailey Bible Church at Little Rock.
