The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Public Library System announces upcoming programs beginning in July.
Main Library in Pine Bluff — Adult Programs:
Quilting 101 Class, Date: Mondays, July 8, 15, 22, and 29; Time: 1-3 p.m. The library will continue its quilting classes. “Come and join us as we learn all about quilting. Bring your own materials or a project you would like to work on,” according to a news release.
Michael Albert Artist Workshop:
Tuesday, July 9; Time: 2-4 p.m. Location: 2nd Floor of the Main Library.
American Pop Artist/Author Michael Albert brings his nationally known “Modern Pop Art Experience/Cereal Box Collage workshop” to the Pine Bluff Public Library for a special Pop Art workshop/program. All participants will have the opportunity to meet the artist, hear a short presentation, do a hands-on up-cycling collage project using cereal boxes and other printed cardboard packages and all will receive a free signed from the artist. Children and adults are welcome.
Arkansas Ghost Catchers:
Thursday, July 11; Time 3-4:30 p.m. Location: 2nd Floor of the Main Library.
Come speak with a Central Arkansas paranormal group that provides community support, education and investigates haunted locations, using all forms of technology.
Dream Catchers Craft:
Tuesday, July 16, Time: 4-5:30 p.m. Location: 2nd Floor of the Main Library.
“We will be designing and making our own dream catchers. Tweens and teens are welcome to come to this craft workshop,” according to the release.
Movies at the Library Presents:
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — Thursday, July 18, Time: 4: p.m., Main Library Theater.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a 2018 American computer-animated superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales. Note: This is a family-friendly feature. There will be snacks and a raffle.
Galaxy Pillowcase Craft:
Tuesday, July 22, Time 4-5:30 p.m., 2nd Floor of the Main Library.
“Come join us as we use paint and bleach to make galaxy pillowcases,” according to the release.
Author Book Signing: Mark Spencer:
Thursday, July 25, Time: 4-5:30 p.m., 2nd Floor of the Main Library.
“Mark Spencer is the author of the nonfiction novel A Haunted Love Story and the novels Ghost Walking, The Masked Demon, The Weary Motel, and Love and Reruns in Adams County, as well as three collections of short stories, including Trespassers, and a history book about Monticello, Arkansas,” according to the release.
Spencer’s work has received the Faulkner Society Faulkner Award, the Omaha Prize for the Novel, The Patrick T. Bradshaw Book Award, the Cairn/St. Andrews Press Short Fiction Award, and four Special Mentions in Pushcart Prize. He is the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and teaches in UAM’s MFA program in creative writing. He will also be discussing his newest book, An Untimely Frost.

Build and Launch a Rocket:
Monday, July 1, Time: 2 p.m. Children will use the engineering design process to make paper rockets.
Make a Pinwheel Galaxy:
Monday, July 8, Time: 11:30 a.m. Children will cut out and assemble their own Pinwheel Galaxy.
Tuesday, July 9, Time: 10 a.m. Children will engineer a space capsule to protect an egg that will be dropped from a specific height.
Make a Star Finder:
Thursday, July 11, Time: 1 p.m. Children will make an origami fortune teller from a template that will help them learn their way around the night sky by finding constellations.
Redfield Branch Library Programs —
All month long in July will be Fun Days & Crafts whenever people visit the library.
Watson Chapel Branch Library Programs —
End of Summer Reading Program Party:
Thursday, July 11, Time: 10 a.m. End of Summer Reading Program with Sno-Cones and more will be served.
Adult Night Out:
Thursday, July 18, Time: 6-8 p.m. Discussion of future programs at the Watson Chapel Branch Library.
Watson Chapel Branch Library will be closed tentatively starting in mid-July for a new addition to be added and renovations done.
White Hall Branch Library Programs:
Toddler Time (for toddlers to age 4), Thursdays, July 11, 18, and 25; Time: 10 a.m. An interactive program for children and their favorite adults. Join the staff for 20 minutes of books, songs, fingerplays, and scarves with time after for play and socializing.
For Elementary Students:
Tuesday Explorations (for ages 5-12), Tuesdays, July 2, and 9, Time: 10:30 a.m.
Stories and Make and Take Activities:
July 2 To the Stars! Starry Night Painting; July 9 All around the Galaxy! Galaxy Slime, and Galaxy Sno-Cones.
