Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Department/Saracen Landing will host “Kids in the Kitchen” Cooking Class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 22-26.


The event will be held at the Coretta Scott King Center in the Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 624 Kiwanis Drive. The cost is $20 and scholarships are available, according to a news release.


“Children 8-12 years old will learn to prepare healthy foods they can make for themselves and their family members,” according to the release. “This class encourages healthier meals and snacks with hands-on cooking experience.”


“Lessons will include basic cooking skills, good nutrition, healthy food choices, food safety and physical activity. Each lesson includes kid-friendly handouts such as recipes and tips for how to use kitchen equipment safely,” according to the release.


Shawn Francis, a horticulture specialist from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, will make a presentation Wednesday, July 24.


Trudy Redus, certified etiquette consultant, will host “Mini Manners,” a session on dining skills.
