Former Arkansas State Rep. Efrem Elliott of Pine Bluff has announced his candidacy for the State Senate in District 25, according to a news release.

This district consists of the following five Arkansas counties: Arkansas, Desha, Jefferson, Lincoln and Phillips.

Elliott has been married to his wife, Tracie, for 26 years. The couple are the proud parents of four children -- Tiarraih, Traquiah, Efrem, Jr., Terry -- and one grandson, Keshawn.

Elliott is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He received his master’s degree in public administration from Webster University and graduated from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Elliott was a prior State Representative for District 11 during the 88th General Assembly and has served as the chief of police for the cities of Gould and Altheimer. Currently, he is an officer with the Pine Bluff Police Department. Elliott is a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Incorporated and Viking Fi Fidelity.

“The Elliott campaign will focus on working with the people of the district to find solutions to problems and creating educational, skilled trades in addition to entrepreneurship and economic development opportunities,” according to the news release.

Elliott explained why he is running for this position.

“I’m running for State Senate because I believe that the people of District 25 deserve a better choice in their representation in their state government,” he said in the news release. “As we campaign across the district, I look forward to listening to voters, hearing their concerns and ideas, working with the stake holders to solve problems. I believe we need a people focused state government."

Elliott discussed his platform and future plans that he intends to implement.

"If elected, building for our future will be the priority," he said in the news release. "I will work to improve educational and skilled trade training for our district’s young people, to attract new business that will provide quality employment opportunities and to work for 'YOU' the people of the 25th district to represent 'YOUR' interest."
