An 18-year-old Pine Bluff man was shot to death Wednesday, and police have arrested a suspect in the case.
Sa’Ravis Reece was found inside a house at 82 S. Richard with a gunshot wound and was taken to Jefferson Regional, then transferred to University Hospital at Little Rock where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect, Chi’dra Thomas, 19, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. After being questioned, he was taken to the adult detention center where he was booked on probable cause of first-degree murder pending an expected court appearance Friday morning and the filing of formal charges.
Police have not announced a motive for the shooting.
Reece and witnesses to the incident said Reece had been shot while in the street and then fled into the house for cover.
This was the 16th homicide for Pine Bluff this year and the first since June 14 when firefighters found the body of Chris Jones, 36, in the bedroom of a house at 110 S. Larch St. that had burned.
The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, who ruled that Jones had been stabbed on the right side of the chest and his throat had been cut.
During the course of the investigation, Derek Payne, 38, was identified as a suspect and is being held at the adult detention center with no bond on probable cause of capital murder and abuse of a corpse.
