Volunteers are needed for the Byrd Lake and Main Street Cleanup to be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8.

The Rotary Club of West Pine Bluff and the Southeast Arkansas Stormwater Education Program are sponsoring the event.

Volunteers will work to pick up litter around the Byrd Lake Natural Area, off 52nd Avenue and Main Street, and down Main Street toward the Jack Robey Middle School, according to a news release.

“Tossed trash and illegally dumped materials contaminate our environment and make the city a less enjoyable place to live,” according to Christine Cooley, extension urban stormwater educator for the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service.

“By doing our part to clean up, we can prevent stormwater pollutants, like plastic and Styrofoam, from entering our local waterways,” she said.
