Little Rock documentary artist James Matthews will lead the August Family FunDay activity from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St.
Matthews is the featured artist of the exhibition, “Eviction Quilts.”Participants will design and color a sheet of 12-inch by 12-inch paper into “quilt blocks.”
“Each creative square will be pinned together to fashion a display quilt that will hang at ASC,” according to a news release.
Matthews has archived evictions within Little Rock through a series of quilts made from clothes and bedding left curbside, according to a previous news release.
“The quilts document personal and physical loss, while also transforming the fragments into something that speaks to function and comfort,” according to the release.
“Eviction Quilts” was scheduled to be on display through Saturday, Sept. 28, at the center.
ASC’s Second Saturday Family FunDay program offers monthly hands-on arts, science, and theatre activities. These events are led by visiting artists, local art educators, and ASC staff. The event is free and the community is invited to join the creativity.
Second Saturday Family FunDay is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation Inc. Details: asc701.org/.
