With the summer's excessive heat, the Pine Bluff Fraternal Order of Police has started their first fan drive.

“We partnered with the Area Agency on Aging to get names of people in need. When we went to Walmart to pick up the fans, the employees seemed just as excited as we were when we told them what we were doing,” a news release said.

Bill Wiegand, president of the PBFOP, said in the news release that “when Lt. Billy Dixon and I decided to do something positive for the FOP and the community we wanted to do things a little differently. To date, we have delivered over half of the fans we purchased.

“We know there are a lot of our elderly citizens who don't have transportation and can't make it to the center to pick up their fan. It was great to see their faces light up when they got their fan and we got it going for them. With several months of heat still to come, we urge everyone to check on your family and neighbors.”
