Anniversaries


Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church, 2312 Fluker St., will celebrate its 98th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Steven King, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.


Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 Reeker St., will present the 17th pastoral anniversary program for the Rev. Glenn and LaDawn Barnes and family at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Donald Manning, pastor of Thomas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.


Word of Faith Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1108 S. Poplar St., will observe the 13th anniversary of the pastor and wife, Henry Land Jr. and Verna Land, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Sherman Rochell, pastor of Sneed Chapel Baptist Church at Yorktown, accompanied by his congregation.


Derrissaux Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Freddie L. Webb and Kathy P. Webb, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. Service will be held at Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St. The guest speaker will be the Rev. LeArthur Shelton, pastor of Open Door Christian Church, along with his congregation.


Concerts


Greater Battle Chapel Baptist Church at Altheimer will celebrate the 54th anniversary of the Battle Chapel Mass Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Hosea Miller of Union Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer.


Union Missionary Baptist Church, 609 E. 24th Ave., will commemorate the 44th anniversary of the church’s gospel choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Melvin Walker of Solomon Temple Baptist Church.


St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1404 S. Georgia St., will host the Evening of Spiritual Music sponsored by the 100 Men Who Care. Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The annual program raises funds to purchase school supplies to be given to children who need assistance in Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel and Dollarway school districts, according to spokesman Clifton O’Neal.


Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will host the Pastoria Singing Union’s worship services at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.


New Hope Baptist Church at Altheimer will host the musical benefit for Levarn Jenkins and Miracle Price, sponsored by the Southeast Arkansas Community Mass Choir. The service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.


Men’s/women’s programs


Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 S. Grant St., will present its annual women’s day celebration Sunday, Aug. 25. At 11 a.m., the featured speaker will Cynthia R. Howard, first lady of Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church. At 3 p.m., the featured speaker will be Latonya Hayes Mitchell, a minister and first lady of St. John Baptist Church at Biscoe. The guest choir director will be Donna Williams Huskey of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church.


St. James United Methodist Church, 900 N. University Drive, will host its men’s day service, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. C.E. McAdoo, pastor emeritus of St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Men In Black will sing.


New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, 3319 Ohio St., will have a women’s empowerment conference, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, the annual women’s day program will be held and the guest speaker will be Juanita Harris of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.


Old Morning Star Baptist Church, 3116 Port Road, will observe its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Melvin Harrison, pastor of St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church at Star City.


Kingdom Builder’s Outreach Church of God in Christ, 3105 S. Apple St., will present its eighth annual women’s day at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be Sandi Walker of Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ at Stuttgart.


Revivals


New Zion Faith Worship Center, 4005 N. Neely Drive, will conduct a revival at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 29-31. The guest speakers will be James Banks, pastor of West Gum Springs Church of God in Christ at Gum Springs; John Oliver, superintendent at Victory Way Church of God in Christ at Bearden; and Darryl Maxwell, pastor of Victory Temple Church of God in Christ at Arkadelphia.


Special events


Mt. Nebo Baptist Church at Yorktown will host the singing and ushers’ convention of the Big Creek and Reedville District. At 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, ushers will be in charge of the welcome department. On Saturday, Aug. 24, the opening session begins at 10 a.m. and the singing convention starts at 1 p.m. All choirs, youth, singers and Christian musicians are invited.


Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, 224 N. Cypress St., will host the annual ushers’ ministry program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. RaeShawn Howard, pastor of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, accompanied by his congregation.


First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will hold its annual ushers’ brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Steven King, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.


New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will hold the 12 Tribes program at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The speaker will be Christine Allmond, a member of New Community.


St. Luke AME Church, 9908 Princeton Pike, will host a dedication celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. Bishop Michael Mitchell, the presiding prelate of the 12th Episcopal District, will be the guest speaker and conduct the dedication for the church renovations.


New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Fir St., will host its annual family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The special guest will be the Rev. George Glass Jr., pastor of Greater Word of Life Ministries of Bastrop, La.


Abundant Life Church, 3109 S. Main St., will present the Prophetic Encounter at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, and 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26. Participants will include Chester Nubine Jr., an apostle, and Louis Lyas, pastor of Abundant Life.


Mt. Olive AME Church of Tarry will have its annual building fund service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The speaker will be Oleta Patterson.


Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will observe the annual mission day of its woman’s missionary auxiliary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Renice Davis, pastor of Bethany Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.


House of Bread Deliverance Church, 500 S. Main St., is conducting Bible Summer Sessions with Naomi Summerville, an apostle, at noon Tuesdays and 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 17. Services are free and open to the public.


Pleasant View Ministry Church, 1117 N. Palm St., will host a pre-registration conference for the Spiritual Revelations Kingdom of God Theological Institute. On Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 28-30, pre-registration will be held at 6 p.m. for the 2019-20 institute classes. Services will be held at 7 p.m. and leaders are Carl L. Desmuke Sr., institute president, and Virginia Desmuke, dean.


Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will host its Educators’ Appreciation at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. All school personnel in the community will be honored at the start of the new academic school year. The guest speaker will be Stefan A. Liddell, a minister with Family Time Baptist Church & Ministries. Liddell is the son of Jimmy and Linda Liddell. He a degree from Slidell Baptist Seminary in 2011.


Youth


First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will present its youth day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Michael Dyer Sr., pastor of Lampkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
