The University of Arkansas at Monticello Jazz One band will perform at the 28th Hot Springs JazzFest at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

The award-winning UAM Jazz One is directed by Jason Smith. They will be accompanied by special guest artist Tim Leahey who, for more than 20 years, was a member/soloist for the premier jazz band of the U.S. Air Force, The Airmen of Note.

JazzFest will be held Aug. 23 and Aug. 29 through Sept. 1 at several Hot Springs venues, according to a news release.

Outdoor concerts will be held under the Sky-Bridge that covers 200 Broadway Street in the Hot Springs entertainment district. Admission is free and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, according to the release.

Another JazzFest performance will feature Gary Meggs, who was director of UAM bands for more than 12 years.

“The State Line Avenue Band brings smooth jazz to a contemporary audience,” according to the release. “With a program created by band members Meggs and Bryan Jefferies, the ‘Smooth Jazz Essentials with the State Line Avenue Band’ concert on Sunday, Sept. 1, will be presented in the newly renovated and iconic Vapors Nightclub venue.”

“The program will include smooth jazz, traditional jazz and great vocals by Phillip House. State Line Avenue Band includes Gary Meggs on saxophone, Bryan Jefferies on guitar and vocals, Buddy Deese on trumpet, Ed Grissom on bass and trombone, Bass Deese on piano, and Phillip House on drums and vocals. Both House and Deese completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from UAM,” according to the release.
