The Villages of General Baptist Health Care (formerly Davis Life Care) at Pine Bluff recently crowned the 2019 King Marshall Darrough and Queen Annie Washington.
Other contestants in the annual King and Queen Pageant were James Owens, Millard Adams, Sandra Langel and Washington Ficklin, according to a news release.
The residents were excited about participating. During the pageant, Mary Jackson, a resident at the facility opened up the program with a welcome to everyone. The Rev. Nathniel Bolden did the invocation and Connie Collins introduced the emcee, Kimberly Price.
Winners from last year, Bernard Johnson and Sharron Love, did their final walk as the 2018 King and Queen. Special entertainment was performed by Claudia Clark while Denese Roaf Lawrence did a poem, according to the news release.
After the judges deliberated, Melvin Williams sang. Special thanks to the judges Linda Collins, Coleman Enwright and Mrs. Lawanda Pam.
“We would also like to thank our volunteers that came out (RSVP) to support our event by escorting the contestants in as they showed off their attire and waved to the judges,” according to the release.
Stacey Williams, the activity coordinator, presented the closing remarks.
Williams said she enjoyed preparing for events such as this one. She has been at The Villages (West) for almost nine years and said the pageant gets better and better every year.
“I love what I do. Our residents rock,” said adding “Congratulations to our 2019 Winners Mr. Marshall Darrough and Ms. Annie Washington.”
