Clifton Lewis, a 9th grade science teacher in the Watson Chapel School District, received an award earlier this year from the Arkansas School for Math, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA.)

Lewis was recommended by a former student to receive a Teacher Appreciation award from ASMSA, according to a news release.

He has been at Watson Chapel Junior High School teaching 9th grade physical science since the 2012-2013 school year, according to the release.

Born and raised at Pine Bluff, Lewis graduated in 1996 from Pine Bluff High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2009 from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Lewis also earned a Master of Arts in teaching degree in 2012 and Master in Education Science in 2014, both from UAPB, according to the release.

He is the son of Clifton Lewis Sr. and Beverly Lewis of Pine Bluff and attends Indiana Street Baptist Church.
