Praise on The Block will be held at 2712 Bay St. from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. Guests will include Lawrence & Levy, Travis Jackson Jr. and the Sonz, Spiritually Driven, Keenon Coleman, Tina Adams, Grace and Mercy Church, Amos Chapel Youth Choir and Kawana McCloud.
The event is free and free refreshments will be served, according to a news release from Valerie Ramos, host and outreach coordinator.
“As you well know, violence is steadily increasing across the nation and our community has felt more than its fair share,” according to the release. “As part of a grass roots organization, the Praise on the Block committee is in the process of presenting our very first free community event to Pine Bluff and the surrounding areas.”
Organizers seek to provide an avenue for positive change, according to the release.
“Pine Bluff native Valerie Ramos is teaming up with Angela Roby, the founder and executive director of Whole Nedz Inc. in an effort to provide this community with a positive event to help promote change and to prayerfully bring this community a step closer to ending the violence that seems to be presently increasing,” according to the release.
The community is urged to participate.
“With this movement, we truly believe that through prayer, worship, and praise in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, by His power, we can rise above the hardships and challenges that we face every single day. Many of these challenges lead our youth towards a life of violence, which in turn leads to the possibility of loss of life for themselves or others and leaves their families with much grief. The mission of Whole Nedz is to assist families that are dealing with loss and grief by bridging the gap between our communities regardless of their backgrounds.”
