At a Sigma Beta informational meeting recently, members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Gamma Psi Sigma Chapter, awarded two scholarships to students entering their freshmen year at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

The scholarship recipients were Deantae’ Cooper from Watson Chapel High School and Charles Harris III from Pine Bluff High School, according to a news release from Thomas Gathen, education director with the Gamma Psi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma.

The scholarships are for $1,000 each. Recipients must have maintained a 3.00 grade point average through their four years of high school. The first installment of $500 was given to each student at the Aug. 18 meeting. The next installment of $500 will be awarded in the Spring of 2020, once students provide proof of enrollment and having maintained a 2.75 grade point average at UAPB, according to the release.

“These scholarship awards serve to support the continuing efforts of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity to mentor and support the education of young men,” Gathen said.
