The Pine Bluff Branch NAACP will host Fort Smith Mayor George B. McGill as the featured speaker for the 28th annual Dove Freedom Fund Banquet.


The banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Pine Bluff Convention Center, according to a news release.


McGill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He is the former chairman of Fort Smith Planning Committee, Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board, and former commissioner of Arkansas Prevailing Wage Commission, according to the release.


McGill’s legislative service includes begin the District 78 member of the Arkansas House of Representatives from Fort Smith, a member of the Legislative Rules Committee, and co-chair of Policy-Making Subcommittee for the Legislative Governing Board of the Council of State Governments.


“As a volunteer in his community, Mayor McGill has received numerous honors and recognition awards to include: UA Fayetteville School of Business Trailblazer Award, Outstanding Community Service Award Westark Community College and Kids Count Coalition for Children 2013 Legislator of the Year Award,” according to the release.


The mayor was also invited to be a keynote speaker at the 30th anniversary for the Fall of the Berlin Wall at Berlin, Germany, and voted Best of the Best Elected Officials by Times Record subscribers in 2018, according to the release.
