Raashaun Casey, commonly known as “DJ Envy,” will be the special guest host for the Homecoming Step Show at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Set for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, the event will be held in the H.O. Clemmons arena of the Kenneth L. Johnson Health Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) complex. The doors will open at 5 p.m., according to a news release. Tickets are currently available.
“A native of Queens, New York, DJ Envy took his passion for music and started out on the road to becoming the mixtape legend and president/CEO of Blok Entertainment,” according to the release. “Since the age of 17, he has made tracks in every part of the industry, appearing as a DJ, producer, TV/radio personality, actor and model.”
“In the early 2000’s, he began premiering exclusive freestyles by Hip Hop names such as Jay-Z, 50 Cent and the L.O.X. He hosted several shows on Hot 97.1 including Takin’ it to the Streets and The People’s Choice Hit List. Sony quickly signed him and his affiliate label, Desert Storm Records,” according to the release.
DJ Envy released his commercial debut, The Desert Storm Mixtape: - Blok Party, Vol. 1, in 2003. He has also worked with Hip-Hop/R&B legends like Jay-Z, Fabolous, Janet Jackson, Nelly, Cam’ron and DMX.
He hosted a show on Power 105.1 in New York before joining Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee as co-hosts of The Breakfast Club.
“After only two years on Power 105, the show was dubbed the number one radio program in the nation by The Source Magazine and is widely regarded as the most informative and entertaining urban morning show today,” according to the release.
DJ Envy also hosts a weekly show on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Hip Hop Nation channel.
Tickets for the step show are available. Presale tickets are $10 each while supplies last until Sept. 29. Sept. 30–Oct. 4, tickets will be $15 each and $20 each at the door on the day of the event.
Tickets can be purchased at Fathers and Sons Clothier in Pine Bluff, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the cashier’s window at UAPB’s administration building, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
