St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen St., will host the 146th session of the East Arkansas Annual Conference Sept. 24-28. The public is invited to attend.

St. John welcomes Presiding Bishop Michael L. Mitchell and wife, Cordelia D. Mitchell, the 12th Episcopal supervisor.

The Rev. Mitchell is an elected and consecrated Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and assigned to the 12th Episcopal District, which includes Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The missionary and youth work of the district is supervised by Cordelia Mitchell, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the Bold City Chapter of LINKS, and the Mortgage Bankers Association.


Tuesday, Sept. 24 — the conference will begin at 9 a.m. with the Women’s Missionary Society Annual Meeting and conclude with a Night in White Worship Service at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 25 — the 146th session officially opens at 8 a.m. The worship and communion service will begin at 10 a.m. and a Lay Organization Worship Service starts at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 26 — the Women in Ministry Worship Service will be held at noon. The Sons of Allen Worship Service will be held at 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 27 — an ordination worship service will feature guest speaker, the Rev. Harold Mayberry of the First AME Church of Oakland, Calif. At 7 p.m., the featured speaker for the closing worship service will be Presiding Bishop Mitchell.

Saturday, Sept. 28 — at 9 a.m. the Young People’s Department (YPD) will host its annual meeting and worship service.


The hosts will include St. John’s pastor, the Rev. Cecil L. Williams Jr. ; the Rev. Johnny Kelley, hosting presiding elder along with the Rev. James Giles and Rev. James Hooper, hosting associate presiding elders.
