The White Hall Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1 5A-Central) fell against Maumelle 29-21 Friday night in the first 5A-Central match up of the year.
The Bulldogs battled after allowing Maumelle to go up 14-0 in the first quarter. The Hornets struck first on a 15-yard pass from Jonathan Reyes to Demetress Williams with 11:23 left in the opening quarter. The successful PAT put the Hornets up 7-0.
White Hall was picked off by Maumelle’s Josh Marshall on the Bulldogs first possession of the game, setting up a 40-yard touchdown pass from Reyes to Williams on the very next play from scrimmage. The successful PAT gave Maumelle the 14-0 advantage with 10:51 left in the first quarter.
Both teams would trade turnovers on the next two possessions, then White Hall went for it on fourth and short inside of the red zone. Donte Buckner ran the fourth down play into the end zone from 12 yards out with 6:53 left in the second quarter. A bad snap on the PAT gave Maumelle the 14-6 lead.
Buckner found pay dirt one more time before halftime on a 23-yard run with 1:33 left in the half. Buckner ran in a two-point try to tie the game up at 14.
Maumelle regained the lead with 6:51 left in the third quarter on a nine-yard pass from Reyes to Louis Hartje. The Hornets missed the PAT, giving them the 20-14 advantage.
Buckner scored his third touchdown of the evening with 3:00 left in the third quarter on a 34-yard run. Kyler Barnes PAT gave White Hall a 21-20 lead.
The Hornets regained the lead on a 27-yard field goal by Caleb Wallis with less than a minute to play in the third quarter, before putting the game out of reach on a 14-yard pass from Reyes to Williams with less than five minutes to play in the game. The failed PAT made it 29-21.
White Hall will now prepare to travel to Little Rock Fair on Friday October 4. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
