Mayor Shirley Washington issued a proclamation declaring Friday, Oct. 5, “Go Pink for the Cure Day” in the city of Pine Bluff.
The effort is in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Employees and residents are encouraged to wear pink to promote the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, according to a news release.
“In Arkansas, 30 counties do not have a fixed mammography facility, which creates barriers for women seeking easy, accessible care and increases their mortality rate,” according to the release. “An estimated 2,210 new cases will be detected this year, with at least 410 deaths expected to occur. As we fight this disease, it is vital for residents to be proactive in seeking mammograms, and for communities to work together to remove all barriers to quality, life-saving care.”
