The University of Arkansas at Monticello African-American Alumni Association announces its Homecoming 2019 plans. Events include:


Thursday, Oct. 17 — At 6 p.m., the UAM Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at the University Center Green Room. The 1979 UAM Football Team (conference champs) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Tickets are $35. Team members will get a complimentary ticket to the banquet and two tickets to the football game Saturday. To RSVP, call 870-460-1058.


Friday, Oct. 18 — The Panhellenic Council will host a Greek Step Show at the Drew Central High School, according to a news release.


Saturday, Oct. 19 — From 8:30-11 a.m., the 19th annual Alumni Elite Breakfast and Awards Program will be held in the University Green Room. The cost is $20 which includes a buffet breakfast, program and awards ceremony. The 2019 honorees are: Rickey Cole of Little Rock; Chemia Herron of New Orleans, La.; Michael Kindle of Lithonia, Ga.; Margaret Wolfe of Dumas; Terry McClinton of Fort Worth, Texas; Barbara Metcalf Latoisan of Little Rock; LaCeasha Banks Turner of Crossett; David Clark of Little Rock. Barbara Blanks Gathen, the first African American graduate of A&M/UAM (1967), will be recognized.


Also at the breakfast, the alumni association will accept donations to the Lionel Moss Omega Phi Psi Leadership Scholarship. Lionel Moss, who is instrumental in organizing the UAM Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, and a former track star, established the scholarship. A total of $15,000 must be raised to have the scholarship endowed, according to the release.


After the breakfast, a tour will be given of the new Student Success Center. At 2:30 p.m., UAM Boll Weevils will play Southern Nazarene University.


The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Psi will sponsor a get-to-gather following the homecoming game. See fraternity members for more details.


Sunday, Oct. 20 — At 10 a.m., a worship service will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church at Monticello. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Moses V. Goldman, UAM Vice Chancellor of Student Engagement, and a 1984 graduate of UAM. He is married to Suzette Goldman, according to a news release.
