Donte Buckner ran for 203 yards and three touchdowns Friday as the White Hall Bulldogs defeated the Watson Chapel Wildcats 28-19. Chapel controlled the first half before an injury to tailback Ricky Farver (14-102yds) limited the Wildcats offense in the second half. Buckner rushed for 166 of his yards in the second half as the ‘Dogs held the ‘Cats scoreless in the second half.
Watson Chapel (4-3,2-2 5A Central) scored on its first drive of the game when White Hall quarterback Matthew Martinez fumbled on fourth down. Devin Curry would cap the 37-yard drive with an eight-yard pass to Tehki Urquhart. The failed two-point conversion left the score 6-0 in favor of the Wildcats. Curry would complete his second pass to Sidney Smith on their next drive for 15 yards and a score late in the first quarter. Abzu Nahshal added the PAT for a 13-0 Chapel lead.
Buckner would get the sluggish Bulldogs on the board with his first score on a two-yard run in the second quarter. Kyler Barnes would add the first of his four extra points to pull the Bulldogs to within 13-7. Curry would answer with a one-yard run with 5:00 to go in the half for a 19-7 halftime lead after the failed conversion.
White Hall (5-2,3-1 5A Central) would come alive in the final half as they scored on a Martinez to Kam Robinson 29-yard pass late in the third. Buckner would then score on runs of five and two-yards on successive drives in the fourth to put the Bulldogs ahead for good. Martinez finished the game 8 of 15 passing for 94 yards and a touchdown.
