ANNIVERSARIES


• EIGHTH AVENUE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will host the seventh appreciation of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Kirby L. and Neshia Gulley, Sunday, Nov. 10. At 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Willis, pastor of Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. At 3 p.m., the guest preacher will be the Rev. Ronald Young, pastor of Faithful Temple Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock.


• NEW MORNING STAR MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 1026 Missouri St., will celebrate its 100th anniversary and homecoming. A banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and the attire is semi-formal. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, the guest preacher will be the Rev. Charles Helloms Jr., pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.


• GREATER MT. CALVARY MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3700 W. 13th Ave., will commemorate its 119th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Robert Handley, pastor of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.


• MULBERRY GROVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH at Altheimer will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Amelio Howard, pastor of Grace Temple Baptist Church, accompanied by the choir.


• MORRIS CHAPEL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH at Sherrill will observe its 150th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 10. At 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Johnny Williams, a minister at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at Blytheville. At 3 p.m., the featured speaker will be the Rev. Antonio Gayden, pastor of Union Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.


• GREATER BATTLE CHAPEL BAPTIST CHURCH at Altheimer will commemorate its 109th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Hershel Lovelace of First Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock


• NEWBIRTH BAPTIST CHURCH, 401 E. Fifth Ave., will celebrate the third anniversary of the pastor, the Rev. Chris Briggs, and family at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.


• NEW ST. HURRICANE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3319 Ohio St., will celebrate its 163rd anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Eric Alexander, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church at North Little Rock.


• ALLEN TEMPLE AME CHURCH, 1123 Virginia St., will celebrate its 132nd anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Joyce Campbell, pastor of Greater Ward Chapel AME Church. A citywide mass choir and Greater Ward Chapel’s Mass Choir will sing.


CONCERTS/MUSICALS


• CHERRY STREET AME ZION CHURCH, 800 S Cherry St., will host the 63rd anniversary of the KCAT Gospel Caravan with the Rev. Samuel Criss, president, and Ruby Criss, secretary. The service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. Guests will include the Cherry Street Choir, Pastoria Singing Union and New Bethlehem Choir. The caravan can be heard on radio station KCAT 1340 AM from 8:30-9 a.m. Sundays.


• MT. CARMEL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 900 S. Grant St., will host the sixth anniversary of the Men In Christ gospel singers. At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, guests will include Mighty Gospelettes and Pure Purpose. At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, guests will include Ronlyn and the Concert Supremes from Louisiana, the Spiritualettes, Hearts and Vessels.


• NEW MORNING STAR MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH at Altheimer will host the musical benefit for Betty Abram Jones and Candice Chambers at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. The Southeast Arkansas Community Mass Choir is the sponsor.


• UNION MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH at Altheimer will observe the 56th annual choir appreciation at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Tony Jackson of Zion Chapel Baptist Church of Kerr.


• HAWLEY MEMORIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 1575 Ridgway Road, will host the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10.


MEN’S/WOMEN’S EVENTS


• FAMILY TIME BAPTIST CHURCH & MINISTRIES, 501 Ohio St., will host its women’s conference. Saturday, Nov. 9, service begins at 9 a.m. with speakers including Carol Key, Charlotte Allen-Roaf and Frances Blood. Sunday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m., the speaker will be Audrea Johnson of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church at Grady. At 3 p.m., the featured speaker will be Shameeka Mack, first lady of Highland Ministries. The guest choir director will be Donna Williams Huskey.


• LIBERTY HILL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 6300 U.S. 79 South, will host its women’s conference from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Speakers will include Louise Tisdale, Glenda Johnson and Nakia Gridley. Registration is $5 and the event includes breakfast and lunch. Also, the annual mission program will be held Sunday, Nov. 10. At 11 a.m., the speaker will be Tameki Cloird of Liberty Hill. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Kassandra N. McGhee, pastor of New Horizon Church at Fordyce.


• OLD MORNING STAR BAPTIST CHURCH, 3116 Port Road, will host a women’s day brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, and the guest speaker will be Joyce Campbell. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, the featured speaker will be Constance Castle, first lady of Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church.


• GOSPEL TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH, 1100 Oakwood Road, will observe its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Michael McIntosh Sr. of Dallas, Texas.


SPECIAL EVENTS


• ST. JOHN AME CHURCH, 1117 W. Pullen St., will celebrate the burning of the mortgage, which was incurred in 2005, and observe the church’s 151st anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The sermon will be delivered by the Rev. Kent Broughton, presiding elder of the Camden-El Dorado District of the 12th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.


• TRUE VINE E MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 1001 W. Second Ave., will host its annual ushers’ program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Willie Laws, pastor of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer.


• Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Grant St., will hold fall revival service at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 11-13 The GUEST EVANGELIST will be the Rev. Travis Harden, pastor of Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
