Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington was first in line at the Jefferson County Courthouse Monday as the filing period for candidates for office began at noon. Washington will be seeking a second four-year term as a candidate in the Democratic Party primaries in March. One of her announced opponents, current City Council member Ivan Whitfield also filed his paperwork early Monday afternoon. Also filing candidate paperwork was Janice Roberts, who is running for Pine Bluff City Clerk, former Justice of the Peace Delton Wright and Justice of the Peace Patricia Royal Johnson, who currently represents District 4. Wright will challenge Johnson in the Democratic primary. On the Republican side, Justices of the Peace Ted Harden and Roy Agee completed their reelection paperwork. (Pine Bluff Commercial/Ray King)
