Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church, 5130 Bobo Road, welcomed a new pastor, John Mooney, and his wife, Cheryl, as under-shepherd Oct. 27, according to a news release.

Mooney, 65, graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree in agricultural mechanization and completed three semesters of Spanish at Southeast Arkansas College at Pine Bluff.

The pastor worked for Delta Irrigation Inc. and John Deere Co. before beginning study at the Missionary Baptist Seminary at Little Rock, where he graduated in 1987 with a Master in Bible Language degree, according to the release.

Mooney has been pastor at Redfield Missionary Baptist Church, First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church at Sheridan, Orion Missionary Baptist Church at Redfield, Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sheridan and churches at Hamburg and Longview, Texas.

“Pastor Mooney and Cheryl married in 1976 and have two daughters and a deceased son, who waits for them in Heaven since 2005, and seven grandchildren,” according to the release.

Cheryl Mooney is a retired teacher and school counselor.
