Bobby J. Ashcraft, age 84, of White Hall, passed away from this life on Sunday, December 22, 2019.
Born September 11, 1935 in White Oak Township in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Irvin Rowland Ashcraft and Estelle Alice Walker Ashcraft.
He attended Pine Bluff Schools until entering the United States Navy for a nine-year tour during the Korean War. He later served in the Arkansas National Guard for seven years.
After leaving the Navy, he joined the Pine Bluff Police Department in 1962. In 1964, he went to work for International Paper Company. In 1971, his position at IP was sold to a firm in Australia, where he was sent for three months to train his replacement.
After returning from Australia, he joined the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Jefferson County Mounted Patrol. In 1974, he went to work for the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a millwright. He continued from there to NCTR where he retired from civil service in 2010 after 46 years.
Mr. Ashcraft was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, and a member of Jacob Brump Masonic Lodge 160 for over 50 years. He was a charter member of the White Hall Lions Club and served with the White Hall Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.
Mr. Ashcraft was an avid Razorback fan and was a “Jack of all trades” who could repair most anything, was a woodworker, and could build anything.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Violet Culp Ashcraft; two sons, Bruce Ashcraft of Pine Bluff and Eric Ashcraft (Lisa) of Little Rock; four granddaughters, Anna, Autumn, Willa, and Carmen Ashcraft; a brother, Darrell Ashcraft of El Dorado; along with nieces and many other loving family and friends.
There will be visitation on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Robinson & Fuller White Hall Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
