A Pine Bluff man was found with stab wounds outside a restaurant Tuesday night and died after being taken to the hospital.


Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Sydney Hayes Jr., 33, who was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m. by a doctor in the Emergency Room.


The cause of death was listed as apparent stab wounds to the upper portion of the body and Kelley said the body will be sent to the State Crime Laboratory at Little Rock Thursday for an autopsy.


According to a press release from Police Lt. David DeFoor, officers responded to Ocean’s Restaurant at 2213 E. Harding Ave., at 4;42 p.m. where they found Hayes outside the building. EASI(Emergency Ambulance Service Inc.) responded and took Hayes to the hospital where he died of his wounds.


DeFoor said in the press release Tuesday night that no suspect information was available and no suspects were listed on the intake log at the adult detention center Wednesday morning.


Anyone with information about the death is asked to contact the Detective Division at 730-2090 or the dispatch center at 541-5300. All calls will be kept confidential and a reward may be available for information leading to an arrest and conviction.


This was the 29th homicide of the year inside the Pine Bluff city limits and 10 more than were recorded in 2018. It was also one more than the 28 that were recorded in 2017.


There were also four homicides reported in Jefferson County outside the city limits in 2019.
