A published in the Thursday, Feb. 13 edition of the Pine Bluff Commercial, Greg Gustek presented the following statement:
City Treasurer Greg Gustek will be seeking re—election for the office of Pine Bluff City Treasurer.
He is currently serving in his 5th term and wants to continue with his 20 years of experience to do the job for the citizens of Pine Bluff.
"Serving the people of Pine Bluff in this position is an honor for him being born, raised, educated and living always here in our great city. I am Pine Bluff Proud” Gustek said.
He is a graduate of Pine Bluff High School and Louisiana Tech University.
Gustek is President of the Arkansas Land of Legends Travel Association Tourism Board, which promotes four counties: Jefferson, Cleveland, Grant and Lincoln. He is also Treasurer of the Lake Saracen Project Association. That board built the Lake Saracen Walking and Biking Trail, the Lake Saracen Splash Park and the all—inclusive play ground that all children even with disabilities can have fun. Being responsible for public funds is what he does!
He served our city for many years before retirement as Director of the Pine Bluff Convention & Visitors Bureau, which was the Sales, Advertising and Marketing Department of the City, which promoted many events such as Business Expo, city festivals, Area Agency Bass Tournament, Parks and Recreation events, Black Pilot of America and other Air Shows and all the museums and attractions.
He also served as Executive Director of the Pine Bluff Festival Association for
many years which owned and operated the "Enchanted Land of Lights and Legends" holiday Christmas lights in Regional Park, and the 4th ofJuly Celebration. Both had annual budgets that he was responsible for.
Gustek explained that the City Treasurer is the City’s Banker and a very important part of the checks and balances of the city’s Finance Department. He does his monthly financial reports separate from the finance staff. They are then given to the city’s accountant who in turn checks and balances them with theirs. The reports must balance to the penny, if there is an issue we find the problem and fix it.
He wanted to give credit to the finance staff of Steve, Marilyn, Gina and Robin that handles the day to day operations. They do an awesome job, and the citizens are fortunate to have their dedication working for them.
He has been married to his wife Rhonda for 22 years and attends St. Joseph Catholic Church.
