A vegetable production meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Jefferson County Extension Service building, 500 Idaho St.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. Although aimed at commercial vegetable producers, the meeting is open all interested parties, according to a news release.

Because of the many vegetables and the depth of information available, a team of experts at the workshop will be available to answer specific questions on any crop of interest to participants, said Henry English, director of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Farm Program.

Vegetable topics will include southern peas, okra, sweet potatoes, watermelons, greens and peppers. Discussions will include disease, insect and weed control in vegetable crops, according to the release.

Information on U.S. Department of Agriculture loans that can be used for vegetable production as well as loans available specifically to vegetable producers will also be covered.

Those attending are requested to ask questions on their particular crop of interest even if it is one not discussed or covered in a session.

To pre-register and be included in the luncheon count, or if participants have special needs, contact the UAPB Small Farm Program at 870-575-7225 or email leek@uapb.edu.
