Pine Bluff Police who were attempting to locate a stolen car Monday arrested a woman who was driving the car and found Ecstasy pills when the vehicle was searched.
Kiona Turner, 28, who is currently on parole was found in the vehicle, a 2015 Chrysler that had been reported stolen in Austin, Texas.
Vice and Narcotics Detective Kevin Kirk reported that officers were initially sent to the area of 31st Avenue and Main Street to check a report that the car was there, then received information that the vehicle had been tracked to the area of Miramar and Bay Streets. Officers conducted a traffic stop and Turner initially gave then a false name and said the vehicle belonged to her sister.
When a check with the National and Arkansas Crime Information Center databases showed that the car had been reported stolen, Turner and a male passenger were both handcuffed.
During a search of the car, officers found three multi-colored pills under the front seat that were determined to be Ecstasy. They also located mail with Turner’s name on it and a records check showed an active warrant.
On Wednesday, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $10,000 bond for Turner after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge her with theft by receiving and possession of a controlled substance.
Charges of financial identity fraud and theft of property are pending against Turner.
