Pine Bluff Police are in the early stages of a homicide investigation after being dispatched to a reported shooting in the early morning hours Thursday.

According to a press release, officers were sent to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of McConnell Circle where they found an unresponsive male inside one of the apartments. Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley reported that Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher pronounced the man dead at 2:19 a.m. The cause of death was listed as gunshot wounds to the upper body and Kelley said the body will likely be sent to the State Medical Examiner later Thursday for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

The victim has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

Police said in the release that no suspect information is available at this time.
