Several Pine Bluff area organizations are cancelling events or closing offices because of concerns over the coronavirus.


Jefferson County offices closed to public


In the wake of the coronavirus epidemic, Jefferson County Judge and Chief Executive Officer Gerald Robinson has issued an Executive Order restricting public access to county facilities through April 4 to protect the health of county employees and the public. Public access to the Jefferson County Courthouse and Juvenile Court Complex building will be limited to county employees, court employees and elected officials having offices in or conducting business in the respective buildings. The county will provide reasonable accommodation on a request of the judge of the courts.


Arsenal reports closures


Several areas of the Pine Bluff Arsenal are now closed until further notice. This includes: hunting and fishing areas (Details: Wes Sparks at 870-540-3247) and recreation services gymnasium (Details: 870-540-3778). The Pine Bluff Arsenal’s Military Personnel ID Card Office is closed until March 23 (Details: 870-540-3787.)


Neighborhood Watch Groups won’t meet

Quilter’s Guild cancels meeting


The Pine Bluff Quilter’s Guild won’t meet Tuesday, March 17, as originally scheduled, according to spokeswoman Mary Freeman.


Watkin Chapel church cancels health fair


Watkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 800 S. Juniper St., cancelled its health fair that was scheduled for Tuesday, March 17. They decided to cancel it due to the health concerns in the news, according to event chairman James Mazique.


Pleasant Grove cancels health fair


Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1801 Indiana St., cancelled its health fair that had been planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the church’s fellowship hall.


Sulphur Springs cancels luncheon


Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, 9238 Sulphur Springs Road, cancelled its senior adult day potluck luncheon that had been set for Friday, March 27, due to the coronavirus concerns.


Retired teachers group won’t meet


The monthly meeting of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association is cancelled on March 19 because of the coronavirus pandemic.


Urban Renewal Agency cancels meeting


The Pine Bluff Urban Renewal Agency cancelled the meeting that had been set for March 17. Due the to existing circumstances surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, Chairman Jimmy Dill requested the cancellation in the interest of safety.


Central Baptist concert cancelled


The gospel concert scheduled for Central Baptist Church at White Hall on March 27 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus threat. Jordan’s Bridge from Bristol, Tenn., was scheduled to perform.


Genealogical Society won’t meet


The Jefferson County Genealogical Society has cancelled its March 22 meeting.


Organizer cancells Behind the Veil class


Margarette W. Williams announces that this week’s “Behind the Veil” Expository Teaching & Writing Ministry Class has been cancelled. Details: 535-5665.


Neighbor to Neighbor won’t hold open house


Neighbor to Neighbor’s Open House scheduled for Thursday, March 19, has been postponed, according to Pat Tate, executive director. Watch their Facebook page for the new date.


Shepherd’s Center ends spring classes


With the threat of the coronavirus, Shepherd’s Center of Pine Bluff must think of its members and close the Spring Session for the time being, a spokeswoman said. The classes had been meeting primarily on Wednesdays at Lakeside United Methodist Church. When it is safe, they will consider reopening, she said.


Extension cancells Home & Garden Show


The Jefferson County Home & Garden Show has been cancelled, along with other programs offered by the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service. The show had been planned for the Pine Bluff Convention Center April 3-4. Details: 534-1033.


Auxiliary postpones brunch, fashion show


The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s Spring Membership Brunch and Fashion Show, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at the Salvation Army Corps Community Gymnasium, is postponed because of the COVID-19 Mandates and the Auxiliary’s concern for the well-being of the community, according to a spokesman for the event. Members of the committee will contact those who purchased tickets, the spokesman said.


Agency reschedules Vietnam Veterans ceremony


The Vietnam Veterans Commemoration ceremony has been rescheduled to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The event was originally planned for Sunday, March 29, according to a spokeswoman with Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas. Vietnam veterans who want to be recognized have until Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. to register. They may register at http://www.veterans.arkansas.gov/ or by calling Laruen Bland at Area Agency at 870-543-6300. Vendors who want booth space should also call Samantha Stichert at the agency.
