Several local organizations are cancelling events or closing offices because of concerns over the coronavirus.


SEARK postpones Roaring 20’s Gala fundraiser


Southeast Arkansas College postponed The Roaring 20’s Gala that was set for April 11, at White Hall Community Center, 9801 Dollarway Road at White Hall. It will be rescheduled for the fall, according to SEARK President Steven Bloomberg. All proceeds from the gala will benefit student scholarship funds at SEARK.


PB employment office closes to public


The state employment office at Pine Bluff has closed to the general public because of coronavirus concerns. The Arkansas Division of Workforce Services (ADWS), 1001 Tennessee St., will still assist clients by phone, email or online, according to a news release from William Campbell, ADWS local office manager. To file an unemployment claim or repay unemployment benefits, call 870-534-1920.


Altheimer city hall lobby closes


The lobby at Altheimer City Hall will be closed due to the coronavirus concerns, according to a news release from Altheimer Mayor Zola Hudson. Residents may use the drop box at the front door to leave information. For any questions or concerns, Altheimer residents may call 870-766-8229 or 870-329-4963.


Health concerns prompt closure of Pine Bluff library


The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System closed the main library at the Civic Center and the Altheimer Library at Altheimer due to health concerns. The other branches remain closed for renovations, according to a news release March 18. People may call the library to request books that can be picked up outside the Main Library between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Library officials also suggest the use of electronic resources that are available with a library card. New Edinburg cancels marker celebration


A marker unveiling ceremony has been cancelled at New Edinburg’s commercial historic district. It was to be held March 28 and will be rescheduled, according to a news release from the Division of Arkansas Heritage.


Optimist Club reschedules fundraiser


The Optimist Club of Pine Bluff’s Tyson Barbeque Scholarship fundraiser as been postponed until May 15. Persons who purchased tickets are asked to use them on that date at the same location listed on the tickets. Details: 870-718-1096.


FBT closes bank lobbies


FBT Bank & Mortgage has closed its bank lobbies in Fordyce, Rison, White Hall and Pine Bluff because of the coronavirus concerns. Churches cancel events


Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church — cancelled the revival that had been scheduled for March 25-27.


Pastoria Singing Union — won’t hold its monthly worship service in March.


Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill — won’t host the Songs of Praise 73 Concert of the Pine Bluff Women’s Community Choir as planned March 29. It was postponed.
